When they moved SS/Q to R what happened to cars like Jimmy Parker's 66 Chevy 4 door running R with the 283 220hp? Maybe we could wake up Parker to fill us in....Sorry, know this is about station wagons, but would like to know....

As Mark B. explained, they did away with Q, and it became an R car and that's how it's listed in the 1976 rulebook "Classes R ---- 15.00 to 15.99". At it's natural HP and weight, it was always in the 15.00 weight break class until they started factoring engines. Even at 235 HP the 300 Deluxe is still 14.11 at natural weight and can still run N at 3695 lbs., which we did for years. Now at 227 HP it would only have to weigh 3575, only 105 lbs over it's original weight.

Why "Q" and "O" were confusing in SS but not in Stock is beyond me, but thanks for reminding me Mark.

Gents,
When Stock was consolidated with Superstock in '72 the 16 lb class was SS/R and then, as Jerry stated, in about '75 or '76 Q was dropped and the 15lb class became SS/R. I have a picture of one of my 16lb Impalas at Warner Robbins in about '76 with SS/T on the window. In '71 I ran a Belair two door in the 15lb class which was O/S at the time, it figured 15.60 which was way heavy for the class but it ran pretty good. I actually set the O/S record at Gainesville that year and tore down but later found out that Bruce Wilkerson set it the same day in Bowling Green with a '56 Wagon @ 225hp and he was quicker by about four hundreths or so.

Frank Chastain, you remember Bill Blount had a S/S 65 Chevelle wagon @ Vidailia. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Larry Pacey's 63 Pontiac wagon from Miami.

Queball

Would this be the same Bill Blount that lived in Cocoa Fla in 1967. He had a 1965 Chevelle when he lived here. If he is still around tell him Kenney Kelley say's Hey.

Indy Super Stock class in the staging lanes 1972. Lots of wagons. That's Bob Ayres' "Grog" in the center of the picture. The Cieri brothers black car right behind. I don't remember the others.

Any of you guys remember the black Chevelle wagon that ran in the mid to late 70's at My Whitehouse and I-20 tracks as well as Hallsville Tx. Father & son team Cory Wade. What happened to him. Did he grow up and out of racing? Always right there/Tough...
He and Howard Stanfield had some good races while Greg played in the pit area....

The Chevelles are 220hp cars...the '56 wagon is 225hp...and I'm guessing the
'59 is a 230hp car? How's that for parity?

Don't know about the '59...but the '56 appears to be Randy Smith from VA...I spoke to
him at the previous year's Summernationals...his car was orange I think...and he was
running as an O/Stocker...the last year of the "old" Stock Eliminator.

He and Alex Jarrell battled for the O/S record most of '71...with the '56 wagons running
the Corvette 2x4 motor....

With the Stock cars running Super Stock in '72....most cars dropped 2 classes...hence
the O/S cars of '71 became SS/Q cars in '72, etc...

Remember a local B/S '69 Camaro becoming SS/D as well.....
