Default Re: Live from the Las Vegas LODRS

Well, I just had an interesting race with Calvert's CJ. They were getting ready to pull us out to run and I looked over to see what his dial-in was. They still only had the 10. on there. I knew he had run a 10.40 in the first round. When we got to the water box they had his dial as a 10.00 on the little dial-in readouts they have in front of the water box. I thought maybe they hopped it up with the laptop and were trying to screw with me.

We did our burn outs and next thing I know the starter is radioing to the tower to change his dial to a 10.41. The starter comes over to me and says they had to change his dial and I told him I know they had a 10 flat on it when we pulled out to go to the water box. He asked me if I wanted to contest it. I thought about it for a while. I know John and he's a real nice guy and has treated Jim and I real good over the years, but it's not my fault they wait until the last second to put their dial on. So I said I wanted to contest it.

Then the starter said we would have to back out while he got a ruling. People have told me they saw them put the dial-in on in the water box. I mean what is there to rule on? We were about the 4th from last pair and they said we would be the last pair out. I wasn't even sure what the ruling was, but I thought it was pretty obvious.

While we were waiting to go John was under the hood, taking the throttle stop off I imagine. Then when we were in the burn out box I saw his dial was 10.00 like it should have been in the first place. I figured they would pick up some, but I didn't think they would pick up that much, so I backed off on the tree. I had a .067 and he had a .008. I got there first by .004 but broke out .01. They ran a 10.05.

I cannot believe it. Right in the middle of the Stock Eliminator round. The live feed quits. That sucks.

Toby - The officials should not have asked you to contest the infraction - rules are rules for everyone - if your opponent broke those rules why make you decide ?

Beside that - I would have not guessed he'd pick-up that much ( well maybe with his throttle stop adjusted ) and run that close to his new dial ............Guess we all learned a lesson from your run - never back off the tree .............

Exactly correct.....as Jack said.

Once you pass a certain point you cannot change your dial-in......usually the head of the staging lanes.....definately no way you can change it once your at the burnout area.....

and you also can't change your dial-in for a rerun if something causes that to occur...

No need to wait for a ruling......just need to have some track officials that know the rules.......

Anytime you take an opponent ligthly it can come back to bite you.....I've been bitten many times.....too many....

Hi Toby,

First thing......
Thanks for posting the videos & pix it's almost as if we are there (not really).

Second thing.....
That 2nd round run of Calvert's in A/SA was 1.14 under the Altitude Corrected Index. Did they change the AFHS this year to count ALL runs Altitude & LODRS events????Should that run in A/SA set a trigger point for that combo???

At one point, I thought that I understood the AHFS, but now I think I don't????

Thanks again for the great race coverage,
Bob
