I am upgrading from a roll bar to a roll cage in my bracket car. The car runs in the 10.50's @ 128 with no immediate plans of going much faster. With the upgrade to a roll cage and knowing that the car does not require a cage, will I be required to install and use a window net? I thought the rule book (General Section 6:3) was sort of vague stating that any car REQUIRED TO HAVE A CAGE must use a net.
So if I don't need the cage but put one in anyway do I need the net? I guess it would be a good thing to have regardless but any clarification would be helpful, thanks.... |

You have to run 9.99 or faster to need a net.

If your class does not require a cage, license, and multi layer suit, and you run slower you do not need the window net.

I almost got bounced at a super chevy event for having a window net out of date on a 10 second car, no cage cert, no license, no dialing in the 9's, they still busted my stones.

You didn't even need a window net. Should have just teken it out. Probably some local tech guy that didn't know what he was doing.

6:3 Window Net: A ribbon type or SFI Spec 27.1 mesh-type window net is mandatory on any full-body car required by the rules to have a roll-cage. I interpret that as saying, If your car doesn't require a roll-cage, dont install one! If you choose to install a cage, then by the "rule" you're required to have the net! Better to have it & race than not have it & go home! |

A ribbon window net doesn't expire as told by D3 Tech last year at Indy, but if it says IMPACT on it to get rid of it (rom the Indy div tech inspector).

Ribbin type nets do not expire for some unknown reason, but mesh type must be replaced every 2 years.
By the rules ,you must have a net in any car equipped with a full cage ,REGARDLESS of how fast you are going.
