The go pro is great for this. Check out you tube and search go pro supercross. There are some great helmet cam videos from this years supercross races.

I have the GoPro Wide. I did one video last year with it so far. Comes with some mounts and you can buy/make more if you need to. Works really well. Just buy some rechargeable batteries. Here is the video. It's a little bright because the sun was low in the sky at that point.

For those of you who have it, how big is the GoPro. Small enough to be used on a helmet inside a racecar?

If you really want something compact take a look at the web site i-kamXtreme.com
The camera is in the SUNGLASSES they are only 160.00 . They have a video to show you. You plug it into your laptop and play it back. Got some myself. I am going to use it on our racecar when we go testing Sunday. Nothing to hold you just put them on they last for 3 hours before having to charge.

Racing Electronics had a camera on sale at SGMP this past weekend -

1.3 Megapixels
640X480 resolution (VGA)
Built-in 64MB memory, expandable to 8 gig
Built-in lithium battery

They were $50, so I bought one. We'll see how it works in a few weeks!

South has a Go Pro and it works fine . You can buy it at Jegs and it is under 200.00 dollars . You can mount it in any position , even upside down

I looked into the GoPro and almost bought one. What I didn't like is the format in which it saves the files takes some very powerful (and possibly expensive) software to edit.

From what I read, some didn't have luck editing, others it took some time to learn.

I want to be able to edit as if you look at alot of the videos, you see alot of dead time before and after the run. This just wastes viewers time as well as wasting bandwidth.

Need to be able to edit the run down to staging and the run, no need for anything else.

We have a gopro camera. It is really a good durable piece.

We bought it from Tim Ryherd at the carshop. Tim is a longtime racer and supports our Heartland series. He is currently building a C/SA LS-1 Camaro.

Talk to Tim.

I had bought a cheapo flip camera to put on my brothers dirt car ( did not want to spend a lot of $$ to see it get ran over haha) , they are $99.00 from best buy...I mounted mine on my brothers mini sprint dirt car and was blown away by the quality of the picture and the sound (for being on a rough dirt track)..It has 1/4 mounting thread on the bottom, i used a L bracket that i hose clamped to the cage and then used wide masking tape to make sure it did not fall off haha.I really think it has a picture as good as any but its not as easy to mount as others, its cheap though and very tough.
I will post a link to the video below, and also a link where i mounted it rather quickly ( and way to low ) in the car i was driving at the bracket final in Ennis..
Jeff what is the brand of this camera? For my use it would be great
