Realistically, a new up-to-date set of heads and manifold would pick you up tremendously. The heads on the motor were worked on in the 90's by McDowell and do not have all of the latest and greatest porting and polishing as current heads do. Everything else on this motor is of very good quality.
I ran this combo with a quadrajet and ran very consistently. One could put a Holley on this motor and be able to run GT/EA at virtually the same weight as I ran in GT/DA with the quadrajet. This would give someone 15 hundredths in index. You could not even come close to assembling the parts for a new motor for what all you would be getting with this motor. The $1000 worth of spare parts is not a joke. I paid Patterson almost $600 for valve springs, retainers, and valve locks that have not even been taken out of the boxes. Add to that the spare un-used spark plugs, magnafuel 2 port regulator with less than 20 passes, $300 worth of spare rockers that have not been ran and a valve spring removal tool made specifically for the heads. Obviously I am biased because it is my motor but we take care of our stuff. We checked valve lash and valve spring pressure after every pass and oiled the motor after every race. I know that was more than you asked. Sorry! |
