It's a shame to see what's happening to all of Wally's work.
So sad....

In the beginning Wally did great things for dragracing. But I believe in the end He was right there with them. He is the one that put these people in charge and enjoyed a very nice pay check himself.

Dude,

You are probably correct that Wally sold out at the end but I bet he still believed in what he created unlike Tom Compton who has no emotional attachment to drag racing.

I had a couple drinks with Steve Evans at the Somerset Marriott during the 1980(?) Summernationals and I told him that I was concerned about the future of Stock and Super Stock because Super Gas was becoming so popular and there where rumors sportsman racing was headed in that direction.
His reply was "Wally Parks will not let that happen because he knows that Stock and Super Stock are the true grassroots of NHRA drag racing".
I believed him to be sincere and felt pretty good about Wally parks after that conversation.

Does Tom Compton have any idea about the heritage of this sport?

A lot of these guys paid their dues for decades, so they have a right to complain about being screwed.

There are two choices here. Allow the board to steal NHRA and sell it (they already tried) or run it into the ground, or the racers can try to get it back into the hands of people who care about racing, and try to save it.

There's no reason that people can't support the combo races AND support efforts to return NHRA to an organization that is for the racers, and not for the bank accounts of people sitting on the board of directors.

Alan,

Of course you and all the current competitors have the right to complain. But the current news is certainly not a surprise, is it? As a former racer I sincerely feel for you guys and I'm angry for you. Support your local ST/SS associations and encourage your local track operators to seek alternatives (IHRA?) The NHRA is run by bad people.
