Thats what I thought !!! We have not seen a full field plus alternates all season and in a normal full field there would be no alternates so everything stay's the same...

This issue popped up at a national event several years ago. We were told the computer in the tower read ET's to .0000 - I believe that is one ten thousandth of a second..

I lost a race in S/C up at Lebanon Valley in 2004 that was shown as a .0006 MOV a few years ago.......so I agree the computer goes out to .0000. I ran 8.90 and so did my opponent....he got there first by .0006....

Artie -- I believe Alternates are only used for replacing contestants that are tossed - once a racer is qualified he ( or she ) stays in ..............
OK - this is a test -- everyone get out their Rulebooks please ( And use the "East Coast" version thank you ) .

Could only find my "west coast version", IE...second Vegas Nat 2009, over a 128 field, 2 cars no show for Rd 1 and 129 and 130 came in and replaced them in the broke car spot.

Also, there's no rhyme or reason on how they insert the alternates. Whatever no-show they happen to notice first they go to the first alternate, if they're not there they go to the next alternate etc...
So, as an alternate you could possibly be inserted into a heads-up situation. If you know that one of the no-shows could mean a heads-up race for you, you might want to make yourself "unavailable" while they're looking to fill that spot -- provided there are other spots available. I know I know, everybody loves to race heads-up, but if you're an alternate I doubt you would want to race a qualified car heads-up especially when you're not hopped up. -Toby |
