1996 Columbus, scheduled for mid-June. The race was rained out. The week after, they ran the four Pro classes, Top Alcohol and Comp. The downtime was filled with NMCA Pro Street cars (Tom Hammond and Mark Tate were two, if i recall correctly), and some other exhibition stuff. Stk, S/S and the three .90 classes ran their Columbus race off the week after Indy. So it could be done, if they had something for the downtime.

I know, Ed. I was using them as a previous example. NHRA could use anything as a time-killer. Jets, wheelstanders, heads-up door cars, etc etc etc.

But they still cannot regularly run National Events without Sportsman Racers. These guys are joined at the hip with Sportsman Racers, whether they like it or not.
