All Impact Racing 3.2A/5 products manufactured before 2009 will not be accepted at any NHRA event this weekend.

This is the announcement from NHRA.

After comparing the quality of my belts to any other brand I have purchased I thought the Impact quality was far superior (Other than the counterfeit SFI tag). So I opted to send them back to Impact. They seem to be offering exceptional deals for people willing to give them another chance. I would have had 7 months left on my belts and they sold me a new set of cam lock belts for $95 about 40% of their retail price ($240 I think).
I guess I’m ahead of the game as long as SFI doesn’t outright pull the plug on Impact. I understand they are giving similar deals on other effected products such as suits.

Anyone who thinks Impact Racing is looking out for the best interest of the racer needs to read this.

On April 13, 2010, SFI received test results from two Impact Racing driver suits we understand to have been manufactured in 2008. Neither suit has a date of manufacture, contrary to SFI specifications. These suits have counterfeit SFI 3.2A/5 patches attached to them. The thread on both suits FAILED during heat resistance testing. One suit’s material also FAILED Thermal Protective Performance (TPP) testing. The other suit’s material PASSED TPP testing, although the thread itself melted during testing. These results were previously provided to Impact Racing. In SFI’s opinion, the failure of the thread poses a safety risk to those who wear these suits in auto racing.

SFI is continuing to test and inspect Impact Racing products manufactured in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 as products are made available.

That’s damning evidence but I’m trying to keep an open mind as in most disputes the truth is somewhere in the middle.
I read the newest press release on the Impact web site and they claim they are being treated different than other manufacturers.
There is also mention of SFI bringing lawsuits against Impact. I assume this would be to recover the money they would have received for tags that were replaced with counterfeit ones. That in mind there has to be lots of posturing going on between the two of them right now. If this is about money and not safety it would be in SFI’s interest to decertify everything Impact has ever made because all those people who would have to throw away their safety equipment would have buy new stuff somewhere else. Think of all the tags they would sell buy doing this!
Enough with the conspiracy theories, time will tell how it works out. I hope I’m not buying new belts again next week!

Ok Im confused, You say its all Impact products, The link to NHRA shows it only
being on Suits, Did Anyone at Houston or Vegas Tech in with Impact Belts with
a Late 2008 SFI tag ? My Belts were recertified and returned to me in early Jan of 09
with a Dec 08 SFI label good till Dec of 2010. I contacted the Vender in SoCal that
sells all Impact products who I purchased the belts from when I turned in my old Crow set because Impact Pays or Payed until now. The Vendor told me on the phone that I was to
contact Impact Direct , Ya right think I could get through to anyone, NOPE.

I also said 3.2A/5.

I would read that any item that has a 3.2A/5 rating would be included.

I have a jacket and pants....some people believe that to be a "suit"....and that is what I have ever called it....a suit.

Marlin tried to tech in today at great bend ks but they would not let him as they said that the set of pants that he just bought just last year are now no good. he said that there were about 8 racers that they would not let run this weekend because of the pants. according to the tech crew at the race, they are going to talk about it tonight. Marlin has found another pair of pants to wear so he will be able to race but, needless to say it was pretty crappy of them to not let him tech today because of them.

Exclamation Re: Impact Racing

OK people !!!! for whatever its worth bite the bullet and replace ALL Impact equipment with NHRA/IHRA accepted equipment NOW!!!! I know its an expense and all but driving 400 miles to race then to be denied racing because you have equipment that is not legal is stupid too---Worry about wether Impact or the vendors will honor any replacement later---You gonna wait all summer for an OK that your stuff is good???? Sell it when you get it recertified!!!!Just chalk it up to a lesson learned--Sorry but that s the facts of life---Comp 387
