Help...
I recently went to a screwless exteior trailer and not sue what to use to mount the weather station pole. I would prefer to only drill one or two sets of holes for brackets. Show some pics. and possible links to brackets and options. Does anyone use this and what are the results? http://www.altalabinstrument.com/catalog.html#top Quick Pole Clamps (Set of 2) Set of two transportation grade rubber clamps that perform well in heat or cold, and are uv resistant. (screws not included). Supports poles from 5/8" to 1 3/8" for elevating your remote sensor housing above your trailer. Thanks much... |

I use the clamps from Altronics (part ALT-PWC-CLAMP), you can find it here: http://www.altronicsinc.com/pages/weathercenter.html
The clamps are white plastic with a nice toggle bolt fastener. I have one on the outside (I use a carefully crafted dent in the trailer edge for the other support) and two on the inside for storage. Have worked great, lasted well, and look good.

I have no idea what your rivet less siding is adhered to you trailer with, but that being said the double sided tape that they used on my T&E trailer is some very very serious stuff and wouldn’t hesitate to use it to mount the pole clamps and not drill anything. I'm certainly no choo-choo charley engineer and don’t know the pressure ratings on the tape that T&E used , but with the small amounts that I had to remove to change some things around in my trailer my guess is that with three of those Alta-Lab pole clamps and that the trailer and clamps are prepped correctly first , that those pole clamps wouldn’t come off the trailer @ 75mph on the e-way with the weather station still installed ( not that I would recommend that of coarse) and certainly no one would ever slip up and forget, and that, that even might happen ( TIC ) See chapter 87 in my new book titled 10 thousand plus ways to screw up your weekend at the races. Drilling holes in new your **** is always tough I remember drilling that 3.5 hole in the bed of my dually to mount the hitch....it took me a couple of days to pull the trigger. Happy hunting Ruthless and as always Useless ps: I guarentee what T& E uses is not you run of the mill hardware store double sided tape ......trust me. Last edited by Ruth; 03-07-2010 at 02:31 PM. |

Chris, Ron and especially Ruth,
Thanks to you all for your replies, I went ahead and ordered a set. Ruth, Just to confirm this is a weather station mounting pole, not a stripper pole! Thanks again and that was some funny stuff... |

I used these in tandem to mount my pole (extending paint roller pole) to my RV ladder. Works very well and gets the weather station up high.

FWIW, I too went to a longer pole. After discussions with some experts at weather station companies, they recommend being at least 6' above the trailer roof (reflects heat). I have a 10' pole. And it gets above those monster rigs some folks have.
Cumbersome? You bet! Worth it? I think so.
