Basically, not having a lot of bye runs is the reason. This rule has been in place for at least 12 years. I remember running the Gators a week later in '98 and it was random pairing.
The race that was mainly responsible for this rule was a race at Columbus I believe. I think it was a divisional, but it was rescheduled four months later. When it was finally run some people were getting two byes because a lot of people didn't return. I would rather have it this way than somebody making a judgment call on whether we should run random pairing or not. As I stated in the other thread there are no heads-up runs during random pairings. -Toby |
