Default Re: How the factory "Package" cars may save Stock

Well....on a Challenger there are no others in the Classification Guides, 2008 was the first limited production year (6400)...we have 2401...which is cool because we have #24 Drag Pak....

But when they are, the SRT8 was equipped with a different manifold than the LC22R...so no that wouldnt be legal.Other than that hood, and Motor mounts are the only Chassis items I can think of you couldnt do....BUT if you took a 2008 or 2009 Challenger and added all the parts to it....then yeah no Problem...same thing Doug Duell did....(well he did a LOT more than that) but he was going from Drawings and Photos...a LOT of research as the other DP cars werent in the wild yet.

And EXACTLY the same as the Cloned Thunderbolts, Lightweight and clone, correct Hemi cars....on and on....

Yes you can duplicate it , and in the case of a Dodge, but all the parts to do it over the counter at the dealer....had we known the cars came the way they did, instead of waiting 16 months we would have taken Dougs path....My hats off to him , he actually had a harder road than us...by far...and should be mega proud of his car and its performance

Im impressed....

Aside from Liability of someone racing one of these on the street, (some dip**** will) one of the main reasons is EPA obviously, now .... maybe maybe not that could be got around.

The funny thing is thanks to the EPA it took damm near 40 years to get technollogy back to a point they can build 425-450 HP 2010 Emission LEGAL cars again that get 25 MPG on the street.

Guys say this and that, but the truth is the reason they dont have a vin is because, a)Liablity (which is one of the reasons max wedge cars had the "sticker") and NOW EPA and Emissions....

Doug Duells IS street kosher (or was) and HAS a title and Vin...(I think it still does) Soooooo....But it wont pass emissions....how many other Stockers would pass emissions.....probably maybe 3.......

I CAN Legally register my dads DP here in Ohio and plan to do that, it will NOT be emission legal but 100% legal in as far as Ohio law is concerned for road use......As long as it has the appropriate lights and signals, thats it.....now to register it for "street" use and get PAST emissions it needs to be set up "temporarily" for "Alternative Fuel" so Alky....if I was going to go the whole road and tag it....

Ive done a lot of that here and know whats involved....mostly "Grey Market" bikes out of Europe and Japan, current model 2 strokes like the Aprilla GP bikes..It can be done, LEGALLY...and when its all said and done its legal....so if all DP owners do this can we stop complainign about the "Street Legal" ? Or does our have to pass emissions too, and theirs not ?

The only problem I have with the new cars is the factors are soft but there should be stock classes for them. Same way with the T-bolts,Hemi darts and all the factory race cars. If you could buy it from the factory there should be a stock class for it. In my opinion.

Forget the factory Package Cars for a moment. They cost too much $. Trying to find a '60-70' body is more than a RWD '90-00' car. Allow all FWD car to convert to RWD. That means more cars availablle to compete. Secondary markets to produce the motor plate, trans conversion, etc. You can then see your own everyday car as a race car. Isn't this how we all got started. We hot rod our own cars and eventially they became dedicated race cars. Won'tthist keep the flow of youth in the sport? I'm still trying to figure out, do I build a SE motor or a crate engine". The body work on a older car gets pretty pricey. A rust free car costs allot as a basic roller. Or just do what IHRA does and do the conversion and run a crate motor. A good crate motor is close to the price of a SE motor. Remeber K.I.S.S. and always have fun when racing.
