Using a ramp truck seems like a better deal than pulling an open trailer. Plus they look cool!!

Lane,

The only real negative was the gas milage was terrible compared to a diesel
truck pulling a trailer open or enclosed.

My F350 diesel pulling a car on my open car trailer gets 15 mpg, most of the
ramp trucks got more like 7 to 10 mpg.

Then there also is the shortage of lockable storage space on a ramp truck.

this thing right here is getting 18 mpg - 05 Ram/cummins, 178,000 miles, auto. Driven GENTLY at 65 with this 3600 lb challenger, I am stunned at how good it is. Comfy too.

Well Phillip,as far as fuel mileage,7 to 10 sounds pretty good. My Suburban and open trailer get 7 to 7.5,period. I`ve never worried about lockabe storage either, that`s what the `Burb and the back of the Skyhawk were for!! Lane

Here's my 1976 Dodge D800 Hauler. It's Paul Rossi's old hauler.
413ci 5speed with 2 speed rear. Air brakes. 93,000 original miles.
This truck runs and drives like new ! Box is long enough hold two cars- 70 AMX and 72 Duster.
The bad news- gas mileage is 4.5mpg if I try to push it (65-68 mph) 5.5mpg at 55 mph.

Whoa that things a beauty-a man after my own heart!! They do suck fuel though-The 1973 Gianino/Oleynik enclosed truck I had last year did get about 7, but it was much smaller-they all need a diesel conversion!

That is a Hodges, Paducah, kentucky--that particualr truck spent most of its life in the southeast and then the west coast-we looked at several, however the paint on the hauler half is pretty poorly applied-they go for the shiny look, but rust eats them away pretty quickly in the winter states. and that body is WELDED to the trucks frame, making it tough to recondition. on the underside it is left bare steel, so they rot through if they see any winter use at all. This was the nicest one we found in a year of looking.
