FWIW - NHRA allows anybody to BUY their way into a class, Funny Car on down. If you can buy the parts, pass a licensing test, your in where ever your wallet allows you to be. At least NASCAR, Indy racing, F1, etc requires you prove yourself by moving up and through the ranks.

Back on topic: .500 index reduction would have been fine with me.

Paul Precht - no excuses are necessary.

Thats why I dont watch it anymore, there was a time when ANYONE could run Nascar or Indy.....those days are gone, Drag Racing is one of the few sports a REAL "Dark Horse" can make a mark.

I agree. Especially these days. With the lack of sponsorship out there, some of the big guys arent making it, and some of the independently wealthy guys that have held on to there loot can get in there and do some damage. I know cubic dollars are an enemy in this thread, but you cant be mad at people for having money. It still amazes me every time I see some sportsman racer I have never even heard of qualifying in any of the pro classes.

Michael Beard for president. Jody as vice pres. I am new on here, and new to stock. I have been racing for over 15 years and have wanted a stocker for forever and a day. I finally have one, it does not run under yet,but I am working on it, and it will, even if the index drops.

Here is what I gather from reading all this.

If you are not fast but can drive your *** off, the go fast guys don't like it.

Not all the fast guys/gals feel this way, but why not encourage participation. Who cares how much effort it takes to get at or under the index now, it still takes a bit of work and money even to get .2 under. There are people willing to jump in, but how "hard" do you want to make it. Get car counts up and s/ss healthy, then tweak the rules.

If I had to get 1 second under for index, I would work until I was there, of course I would be 89 years old, senile, wearing a diaper and not racing. I don't see how prolonging the ability for people to get started in the class can benefit the class. Maybe it will keep the prestige, but what is prestigious about a dying class. How prestigious will it be when it is gone ?

Nice to meet all of you.

wagon boy, you say you havebeen racing for 15yrs? I would love to know what kind of car someone could pick to run in stock and not run the index? Hell you can go to enterprize and rent a car that will run under.Times have changed over the years, just maybe everybody can't run stock and super stock anymore.

No, not at all! Understand, I have absolutely no problem with someone who has money, spending it. Want a toterhome, stacker, and three brand new cars? If you can afford it, and that's what you want to do, super!

Welcome aboard, wagonboy! Holler if you need any help, tips, etc. Here's a guy who's going to get his feet wet, run the index, then run -.20 under, then run -.50 under and so on... not because someone forced him to spend money, but because he WANTS to go faster, yet do so within his means. Class racing does have a huge Performance component to it... but in my opinion it's about self-satisfaction, not the satisfaction of others.
