In NHRA it's a natural U/S(A) car. In IHRA it's a natural K/FI(A). The index for both classes is a 15.15 which means you probaably need to run at 14.65 to be somewhat competitive. The IHRA K/FIA index is a 9.45. My Mustang ran a 10.20 with a tired 135k stock motor, with no modifications at all at 3280 lbs. and a stock A4LD trans. It did have a 4.56 gear and a 28" tall tire. I know that the 10.20 in the 1/8 mile is still a long way off from the 9.45 index but I know there was more in it. I bracket raced it several times and car was pretty consistent and in fact I runner-upped the first time out with it. This was after a 20 year hiatus from drag racing.
If nothing else go for it and have fun. To me the most important part of it all is just the participation and interaction with all those I have met. JMT.
