Default New Camaro Z28

Anyone here know for sure that the soon-to-be-arriving new Z28 Camaro will have the Cadillac CTS blower motor? Heard this today from un-official sources, so if you know, let us know....WJ

The new Camaro is going to have a "version" of the CTS-V engine. Specifications of the engine/blower have yet to be released but General Motors is saying this motor will be in the 550-600 horsepower range.

Didn't the new Mopar entry (Challenger) start out very much overweight? WJ

The Z28 is just keeping up with Shelbys GT 500-about the same ponies and weight 3,800-4,000 lbs.-A nice hotrod for the street

So, basically you're saying that no one will bother to turn this car into a stocker or superstocker because they'll not be competetive because of their weight?..... Or am I missing something else here? WJ

Just puts them in a lower class, right? The local track ownner (Dan Gutterman) has a Caddy CTSV with that blown engine. He had the pulley changed, I tuned it for him, and it goes 11.20s through stock exhaust, cats, etc. Strange to see a 4 door car that big and quite run that quick. Hope that thing won't fit SS/JA.

Even if by some miracle, the Z28 gets into the books with a 425-450 rating it is still going to be difficult to run with the Cobra Jets. Yes, the LS3, L76, and LQ9 motor are all in the 6.0 to 6.2-liter range as compared to the 5.4 CJ's but any aftermarket supercharger company will tell you that the 3 & 4-valve configuration of the GT500 and CJ respond much better to forced air. In general, if one were to take a 2009 Mustang and run 8 pounds of boost with a Magnacharger, Eaton, Procharger, Votech, etc, they will make equal to if not better horsepower than an LSX engine with the same boost levels.

General Motors can get the weight out if they decide to play the game and not sell us a shell for $7,000 in which we will have to buy a 6-cylinder car to finish anyway. An SRT-8 Challenger off the factory floor is over 4100-pounds, while a GT500 Mustang is 3900+. The Z28 Camaro will be 4,000 pounds (approx.) but many people have gutted SS Camaros as well as purchased Body-In-White cars and have gotten close to where the Corba Jets are. Don't fool yourself into thinking for a second that the Cobra Jet cars are at the minimum weight in AA even with the 100 pound hit. 3400 pounds is acceptable when you are making over 650 ft-lbs of torque.

The whole G deal won't work!!!!!
1. No one at GM Cares about drag racing. Only NASCAR & ALMS
2 GM doesn't have people to work wth the assembly plant in Canada to get light weight Body in white done!
3. GM an not afford to interfear with production to build race cars.
4. Ford has a advantage right now as Mustan sales are slow and the Plant in Flat Rock ony 20 miles from Dearborn.
5. Ford has been doing it since 95 with the bodies in white.
6. The supercharger and Throtlr body from LS9 is not big engough (not enought air flow) to support the + HP astocker would need to make let alone a Super Stocker.
