Re: Great Story on Danny Byrd
I have had the pleasure of having Danny Byrd pass through my life quite a few years ago. It was about '87 or '88. WW2 (wrong wife #2) and I were going down I-30 on the way home from a meal at a one of Texarkana's fine restaurants.. I spotted a red Chevy Pickup with an enclosed trailer on the side of the road with the hood up. It turned out to be Danny. I think it was when he had the alky dragster. It turned out to be the HEI ignition was dead and we headed over to the shop to pick up some parts to fix it. We had some nice conversation and he was interested in my '78 Corvette I had in the shop. I had just built a 400 engine and installed it. The next week he called and thanked me for the help and began asking about the car. He ended up buying it over the phone... No test drive and I don't think I had even cranked it for him. Then when he was running Top Stock (10 or 12 years later) I ran into him at Rockingham and was able to talk a while. He is just one of those people that is a pleasure to be around.
