Electric Vacuum Pump?

Does anyone have any experience with a electric vacuum pump, I see there are many people making them now and I have even seen some that use a stock GM one any info would be helpful.

Is the GM one a pump meant for accessories on a diesel? I was thinking about trying to get a wreckign yard pump and modifying it. How much vacuum does a typical pump draw, and how much volume does it need to be capable of?

I think the stock GM one is from a S-10 diesel like a accessory pump but not 100% sure.

I would worry about the volume of the pump. If it makes enough vacuum to run accessories, will that be enough volume to evacuate a BBC or SBC type engine. Interesting question.

I would bet that one for a light-medium duty diesel (like an F350) would have reasonable volume to keep up with braking needs. I may have to do some more digging. Does anyone know the volume and vacuum level specs on existing ones used in drag racing?

I put on on my small block. It pulls a steady 5". I only turn it on before going into the water, and turn it off after the lights because I'm not sure how much current it is using.

I used an electric EGR pump from a 90's Chevy LT1 as a vacuum pump. Never did measure the vacuum, but it seemed to perform as well as a header pan vac. However, I took it off because it got to be a pain. Had to be turned on before the burnout, then off after the pass because the constant vacuum would limit oil to the rings when it was needed at lower RPM.
