we all know that there is no set procedure, but clearly there should be. It can and has been coins, cards, numbers out of the hat, and yes, even a ladder based on qualifying. It seems as though its different every single time, and if one player demands a coin flip for the bye, the others must acquiesce.
I would think this should be an easy enough action item for us to address. It seems only fair that the fast car gets the bye, and if a sportsman ladder is applied, who can bitch? Oh, wait...I forgot the audience in question... |

At Belle Rose for Top Stock, we drew pairs of cards. But I guess I will have to get another deck of cards because Floyd Russo crumpled up and threw away the card!!

They had class at the IHRA Nothern Nationals, even though there are so many different classes and a lot of singles, the IHRA officals take the time to pair up cars (trucks) in each class and give the bye to the fastest qualifier. I agree with Jim, Dan and IHRA, this is how it should be done. Why should class run offs be any different than the eliminator? We do qualify for the eliminator and are paired by how we qualify ...

At the IHRA Northern Nationals, there were three E/SA cars and coins were flipped to determine the bye. In F/SA,you got the bye because neither of the other two competitors knew they could beat you anyways,so they didn't really care. You should have stayed in G/SA and had a real race, but you bailed! LOL! If there are three cars running class that are fairly evenly matched (doesn't happen often, usually one car is considerably faster) then I think there should be a coin flip or some sort of random draw. |

That only seems right to the slower guys. ![]() Flipping coins and pulling cards is only fitting for the local bracket racing. Class should be about who is fast. Some people still care. The guys that choose to sit back and not constantly test and work on their combinations still get to do their beloved bracket racing in eliminations. And pray they don't have a heads up.

Other question: Both ladders are fine with me, I don't care. Probably Sportsman ladder, since that is what we run from in eliminations.
