As I recall the RA 1968 is called a 400 HO. Virtually the same specs as the RAIV. I have a neighbor that still has his 1 owner 1968 GTO HO. Extremely rare!

The HO and Ram Air 1 motors had D port heads and the Ram Air II motor had round port heads with the standard size intake port in `68.In` 69 the Ram Air IV motor was introduced with round port exhaust like the Ram Air II but with a taller intake port had the same cam as the Ram Air II but had 1.65 rockers. The 400 HO was called a Ram Air III in `69 and `70. So,no the Ram Air IV and HO motors do not have virtually the same specs.

I wonder why NHRA has the 1969 Firebird RAIV and RAIII rated the same 356 HP with all the better parts on the RAIV? Seems like the RAIV would be the best of these two. 1968 shows in NHRA as having the Firebird with a 400 that's OEM / NHRA rated at 330 / 325 - 335 / 327 - 335 / 340 RA & 340 / 335 RA. That would take a lot more investigating. Since I'm not building a FB, good luck Janne!

The Ram Air I came out in `67 and was continued until mid `68 and that`s when the Ram Air II was introduced and that ran until the end of `68. The Ram Air II had the first round port exhaust heads and a .480ish lift cam.
`69 the 400 HO was then called the Ram Air III and the Ram Air IV was introduced. The Ram Air III was still a D port motor with the small lift cam while the IV motor had round port exhaust and tall intake runners. The high lift Ram Air II cam was used again in the Ram Air IV motor but had 1.65 rockers which made the lift somewhere around .520. The HO moniker was used in `70 for the 455 which was a D port motor and then in `71 and `72 the 455HO had the round port heads with the tall intake runners.
