Default Steering Gear adj/Front end alignment

Two questions

1. I have to much play in the steering wheel on my Chevy II. Is there any adjustment I can make to tighten up the slack in the box itself?

2. I bought a front end kit(center link, tie rod ends, idler arm bushing kit etc) from Eddie Rezac(no problem there) and installed all the new parts. Had the front aligned. When you drive the car through the pits/down the return road if you take your hands off the steering wheel the car goes dead left(I know keep your hands on the wheel) but this obviously shouldn't happen. Took it back to alignment shop and they say it's dead on nothing to change. What gives. Before redoing front end I did not have this problem. Thanks.

Ed, There is an adjustment on the top of the steering box. Loosen the jam nut and turn the adjustment screw clockwise and you should be able to take some of the slack out. I ended up having to replace the gear box on mine several years back. As for the alignment problem I would call Eddie. Doesn't he supply some new alignment procedure when installing his kit? BTW nice meeting you and your son in Houston.

hey dueces, swap the front wheels/tires side-to-side and see if it goes straight or pulls the other way.
if so, you got a bad tire...

rear end housing bent?
tire a different compound/diameter on the rear COULD cause a push...

Ed,
As per my instructions are you sure the front end shop is aligning the front end with you, or the equivalent of your wieght in the drivers seat! That is very important. If you lost my instruction sheet let me know, and I will send you another one.
The things that others on this thread quoted, are definitly things to look at. My phone number is 402 443 8424.

I'm sure you will need to re-thread the strut bars to get the needed caster and Eddie might already have you doing that

Where you able to get the problems fixed?

If so, I would be interested in hearing about it.
Thank You,
Glenn
