I wouldn't do it that way. I agree with Jim, pull the engine, get it on a stand, and get it off the right way.
When you heat the hub, by the way, because of the press fit, you'll heat the crank snout just about as fast, due to heat transfer.
Make sure you lube the puller up real good as well. At the very least use a good coat of oil on the threads on the shaft and inside the puller body. Better still, use moly paste. And make sure the bolts are threaded perfectly even in the balancer, so that you are pulling it straight, because if you are not pulling it straight you'll never get it off.
