Thats how its done.....I raced nothing but 4 speeds in the 60's and 70's (except for one 65 426 Street Wedge Plymouth) WITHOUT electronic aids. The last was a SS/I STICK (Chrysler A-833 trans) 68 Camaro until 78. Then I went to a glide (no trans brake or 2-step) to keep the 12 bolt alive a little longer. We were not allowed Danas and 9" fords in a Chevy back then.
