IHRA uses their (NHRA's) factors, some of which are absurd... why not the factors generated by the AHFS?
Sure would simplify things...

It would also put some combos out of business (make them JUNK) like they are in NHRA. Example.......1970 426 Street Hemi Cuda among others! Not saying that car was bogus but it was never certified with a tear down inspection either. IHRA tends to try to find a happy medium to keep the average person racing unless it an obvious bogus factor. They havent seen any of the new Mustangs competing YET....lol.

Oh you mean the car that went red, didnt scale, didnt tear down and got the motor hit many times. Yea that car. Put the same motor in a Road Runner and I think its like 28 HP less. Funny thing is that motor is in a b body now and hasnt went that fast. |

Herb, It's a pretty trick deal when you can change body styles and lose 27 HP. That whole Hensen deal is a big crock. I was working with NHRA and one of their better people to fix the problem and suddenly that person is gone from the AHFS. It is a shame to let one guy ruin a combination. The E-Body cars can't pack 3800 lbs in A/SA and be any where near competitive. Chris Howes tried it and couldn't qualifiy at Indy. I know for a fact his motor made the same power as Hensens motor on the same dyno. I have talked with NHRA people, written letters and sent e-mails until I am blue in the face. The answer I get if I get one is wait until June. So I guess we wait until June to maybe fix something that should have been fixed over a year ago.

Terry,
Fred Henson's Street Hemi Challenger held the record in NHRA A/SA, and I believe to do that, they have to tear down, don't they? In view of that, I wonder what you mean by "was ~never~ certified with a tear-down inspection, either." Maybe you mean, it wasn't certified with a tear-down inspection when he bombed the factor. That's a good point.

Bill....Thats correct. It was not certified after he bombed the index, Just like Herb Jr. said. I also dont think ANY combo should be factored unless its certified during a complete tear down inspection. Thats why I feel the AHFS is a major joke.

I totally agree, Terry.
ANYBODY could build a killer motor and bomb whatever index they can get the car classified into.... if they're not going to certify the legality of the powerplant after the fact. You hit the nail on the head; it's a joke. Bill
