I was lucky enough to spend a couple of months with Hubert and Randy when they were putting on the Drag clinics at Ford dealers between races. The box on the truck held the display board with engine parts on them. We would use a winch to lower them that would swing out from the top. Under the Torino was a spare Cobra Jet engine. The trailer is where they hung up their garment bags.

I too was lucky enough to have seen those cars and the Hauler. My father was Vice-President of the local chapter of the Ford Drag Club at the time and we had a seminar at Rice & Holman Ford in Pennsauken , NJ with Platt and Payne and the " Ford, The Going Thing " Clinic. Al Joniec , who was sponsored by Rice & Holman Ford was also present. I still have boxes of all the stuff from the clinic including decals, race entry forms and all the Muscle Parts catalogs and information. I even still have my father's Official " Ford Drag Club " jacket !!!
The following day there was a Match Race at Atco Dragway with Norm "007" Fryer and his 66 427 Biscayne and his 69 427 Camaro against the Platt and Payne Team. I have several pictures of the display at the dealership and at Atco. I really need to dig that stuff out one of these days!!! Thanks for showing that photo as it has brought back a lot of fond memories for me !!!

P.S. I still own my Original Cobra Jet car from back then.

Old stuff. Go to Hotrodder.com, strip pictures, Louisiana drag strips, Southland Dragway. Old interesting pictures from early days. On the Platt & Payne cars, in l968 we got the Dodge franchise. We had an A/MP at the time a Nova with a 427 and had Southland Dodge painted on the side. We ran Hubert in the final and won. When it was written up in National Dragster it had a Hemi.

Here's a black & white photo by Richard McFalls, taken at my home track in the late sixties.
