If you live near GA, NC or SC there is the division 2 national open series that you can run a crate motor stocker. Other than that you are pretty much out of luck. Maybe NSS. But that is not NHRA

Looks like there are two different 305 combos you can run in 1985. Some of the 305 guys can tell you which one is better.

If he puts a 83 nose on it, the hp rating is 20hp less than a 85.

Sell the crate motor and build a 305 for it, sounds like your best bet.
