Mark,

I'm curious about a couple of things if you don't mind answering some questions about this build.

1. Do you get out the die grinder and turn the transmission into a crash box, or do you have another method of achieving quick consistent shifts?

2. Given the distance from the shifter to the transmission, what do you use for a shifter and linkage that does nor deflect or bend under the pressure of competition?

Honestly ,I don't know yet. The old carb-ed Escort was a 4 speed with a cable clutch. The later hydraulic deal is causing me concern.

The first problem is not going into 5th instead of 3rd. I'll make a slotted gate, where you can still grab reverse in a hurry.
The 82 used stock gearboxes from the boneyard,...stock shifter too.
I normally use a T handle on regular stuff. I didn't want to be able to pull on it that hard. You have to shift FWD's differently than you would with a Super Shifter. More like driving the stock factory shifters in the 60's.
Never missed one with the 82, so we'll see.

Update : We found three cars on Offerup , in SoCal.
1, says he still has it but doesn't seem to want to converse in English.
2 and 3, No response..Ads have been up for months, and possibly not cancelled.
They could be in The Big House by now, for all I know.
I do know that O/U is just as bad as F/B.

We'll keep tryin' . Thanks
