I'm curious, if someone had nothing lying around, and I mean no parts at all except a car(running complete bone stock street car) how cheaply folks think one could be done?
I learned from my past failures I need to worry about just completing one before I try that, but it's a good thinking/talking point...

Funny you should say that...just got home from there. Working on finally seeing one through, with some guidance...

I had my car already, $900, bought used engine and parts, converter, used wheel-tires, tubing, seats, Dana and gears, paint and body work, not including ALL the misc parts and pieces (not enough space to list it all here)+ Doing all the work, I think I have at least $5000 so far, still have more current stuff to buy. Not sure what a "dime rocket" means. Thank goodness from years of hoarding parts to use.

There's no such thing as a car guy having "nothing lying around". And by that I don't necessarily mean "lying around" in your yard or in your line of sight but what's "lying around" you're friends yards, the neighbors yards and most of the junkyards in a few hundred mile radius. Who you are and what you can do all figures into the price of poker.

And as others have pointed out - if you are starting with nothing - buy an already built car ( roller or complete) as it will cost less than buying parts to build one. Quicker too!

How about a '99 Mustang (just posting about a FFFFFord makes my fingers itch!) convert. with the 232. Rating looks pretty good at 170. 10.5 cr., big cam, 2" throttlebody and it can make T/SA @ 3400 lbs!!! I'm sure it could kick the snot out of my Nova! There have to be some of them floating around for not a lot of money and parts should be fairly cheap and easy. Could it be a 21ST century "Dime Rocket"?
