Honestly Carl I would put my faith in the shop that will check the block for cracking to check the align bore condition. Do you feel the studs being hard to turn out is a problem?

I try to snag every 454 that comes my way but lately there is more and more junk being put out for sale. Guess they are getting scarce.

Only way to check alignment is to run a line hone through the mains as that don't lie. Biggest problem I see wit old 454 block is worn out lifter and guys try to put roller lifters in worn out bores it does not take much time to ruin a set of lifters. Other problem is the lifter bores are to short . I bush them and in most cases go to .904 and leave the bushing appox. .250 higher then the casting. |
