The price of racing gas depends on the octane, and the brand. For example, Renegade 110 wouldn't be anywhere near $12.
As Alan said, Stock and Super Stock are restricted classes, and the restrictions include fuel. There are only a handful of race fuels that are accepted by IHRA and NHRA. Fuel checks are done so that it can be determined that the racers are using an accepted ( legal ) brand and blend of race fuel. The fuels are tested against manufacturer supplied specs, so any additives or differences will show up. The question of allowing pump gasoline in Stock and Super Stock has been debated for decades. But the one glaring problem is that very few if any pump gasolines are exactly the same each time you purchase them. For street driven vehicles, they don't need to be. And since they aren't the same day to day, or batch to batch, there's no benchmark to test against. |

I feel something is missing when they don't fuel check. I am sure many will agree when there is no fuel check it raises alarms, just like no scales and no tear downs, all extra work but it provides a legitimacy to these performance based classes.

You cannot get consistent results checking the specific gravity of pump gas.
That's one of the reasons for spec fuel in Stk/SS Only IHRA Pure Stock is allowed to run pump gas in Stock Eliminator.

I use an app called "Pure Gas" on my phone. It shows stations that carry Premium Unleaded Non-Ethanol. It uses your phones GPS.
