The other thing they are missing is that when we get new racers into the HHRA style of racing they are kept from participating in a National event for over a year. I know a lot of people like the three day event schedule but if we have to go back to racing on Thursday for sportsman qualifying maybe that should be offered as an option. You could still run one round of qualifying on Friday with people having the option of being there on Thursday if they if they wanted additional qualifying shots. The way I see it if you let more racers in and if you had to run one round of some or all of the eliminator so on Friday it would get the car count down to the same number or less cars than we have on Saturday with the current schedule. Peter Clifford told me at Houston that they wanted to insure the best experience for the racers attending the race. I certainly understand wanting people to enjoy themselves but they are currently excluding other dues paying competitors from competition.

I like Mr. Pearson's view on it, that is let the Div. your running in be allowed first.
I'm only 30 minutes away from Englishtown and only have 4 grade points but couldn't
get into Stock Elim.
Mind you, S/G quota is 65 and as of now their are only 22 entered out of 65.
I'm not in any way taking a shot at S/G but if their last few years Never came close to making quota, why is their quota set so high ??
Stock @ Englishtown probably could get 100 cars if it was set at 100.
They also do run the Factory Shoot-out there as well.
x2 on that Pete

I still believe you gotta earn your way in to national events. Not for the weak. Or smart people

James,
Down here in div 2 we have already run 11 events. 8 IHRA and 3 NHRA. This weekend kicks off the Southern Stock Super Stock Assn. At Green Cove dragway near Jacksonville FL. for a double race weekend. We have been racing our buts off since the first week of February. Up north y'all are just blowing the dust off and getting cranked up. I for one don't have enough vacation time to go to many national events as they pretty much take a week by the time you travel there, race and back home so I mostly stick to the races close by and I have 3 different series that I compete in. Good luck to everyone in Atlanta this weekend

Would it really make business sense to turn away the most loyal customers in favor of occasional customers who happen to live closer?

I can see how it would suck to have your local event be a high-demand event such as the Gators.

Two things I see here are that the provisional entrys(past champs, FS cars etc) should not count against the quota. That alone would solve most of the problem and would help people in all of the eliminators. I also think that allowing some of the newer racers into a National Event sooner helps hook them on our classes and the sport. I also know that everyone has different ideas about how to solve the problem. I appreciate the fact that we are having this discussion respectfully among all of us without some of the bickering that sometimes accompanies these threads.

This only makes sense. I am going to enter the Joliet event in Super Comp next week, when I am eligible. I will wait until much later to enter Super Street since I have a provisional there. It would be much more convenient to do it all at once, but I don't want to take a spot from another racer wanting to attend.

IHRA don't count. All you do is show up.

The quotas were changed to force you to run more Division races to increase revenue period.
They can care less if someone who can only get 2 grade points can enter a National.

In our Division we have 10 classes of Harley motorcycles and they let Alcohol cars test n tune during Friday qualifying. It's really special !!!
