I believe Paul Mercure did it at Montgomery Alabama several years ago at the NHRA Div 2 Open. I believe the third or so 9 second Stocker ever.

If anyone could do it he would be the one for sure! I'll need a 50mph tailwind and -3000 ft da lol. I've never actually seen one in person do it. I've seen some 10.teens in bad air and I know they could if the air was right!

The Aluminum Head 396 was not available in '67, so it would not be legal.
The first year for this option was 1968.

This is where things get a bit confusing for a newbie like me.

So, the NHRA allows someone to run an engine combination which was not available for that model year, yet I cannot run a cowl induction hood for the 350/255 combo because the engine option was cancelled before the cowl hood was released?

After checking the classification guide, I noticed that aluminum heads are also legal for the '69 iron block 427, even though that was never offered from the factory.

The GMPP 401 aluminum head is the replacement for the cast iron closed chamber rectangle port heads of that era. There is a HP penalty on the factor for them. They started out at 10HP above the original cast iron head several years ago. So, yes, they are legal, and found both in the classification guide and the blueprint guide.
