How do you measure Oxygen do you have a sensor? I have used a Oxygen Meter since 1985. % of oxygen has a big affect on performance! a change from 19.8% to 19.5 is big!

Systems that are designed for hiking, aviation, sailing, etc that are not licensed by Altronics can only calculate "text book" Density that will not always correctly relate to horsepower changes. Worse, Like asking a Ford if he should by a Hyundai!!!!!

Yes, Oxygen is the name of the game. Fuel + O2 makes horsepower. The Oxygen sensor is an option on almost all of our weather stations. Without it we assume a constant percentage of O2 in the atmosphere and by measuring the density we know the assumed O2 content. With an O2 sensor and by measuring the density we do not have to ASSUME, but can calculate the ACTUAL amount of Oxygen.

With that said, if you race at the same location all the time the O2 level tends to be stable because the environment does not change, (vegetation, pollution, etc..). So the oxygen sensor tends to benefit the racer that travels to many different tracks that are located in different environments.

I don't know about the Kestrel but my 98 model performaire would cost $300 or more to up grade. Thus, I am buying a new weather station.

Not sure if you are asking about PerformAIRE's or not, but the answer is yes they can. There is a service form on the Tech Support page of our website that has all the info needed to send it in.

Normal update and calibration fee is $89. If your unit is built before 2004 and needs other repairs it may cost addtional as stated on form.

Fred, I have been very pleased with the performaire unit. No complaints at all! I also would like to say that I appreciate your feedback. One question, could I expect the same quality performance with the pocket unit as opposed to the performaire?

Thanks,

Robert

The sensor technology/accuracy is the same on all of our PerformAIRE systems. You would be giving up the prediction/data base capability when comparing to the PerformAIRE model PA2.
