Points for rounds
Points for qualifying position
Points for national record

All three give incentives to compete, play hard and spend money.
There is NO reason not to give points to these.

NO AHFS penalty for qualifying times, national record runs or heads-up runs in competition (like class runs and runs against like-classed cars in Eliminator racing.)

Records would be realistic reflections of what the cars actually can do, and would start to mean something again. REAL racing would return, but the AHFS program would still be in effect for handicapped eliminations.

Double points for national records.

The most expensive part of racing for me by far is the travel costs so with only 1 national event in the division, it doesn't make sense to even consider chasing national points. I don't think you guys on the east coast and in div 7 know how lucky you are.
As far as the system goes, it works if you live in the right part of the country.

Well if it's so damned easy living and racing in Div.1 just come on out and give it a try! I'll even give you a place to stay!
I'm not going to say that it's easy to win in any Division but the competition in Divs. 1 and 3 are killer.

Billy, I`m sure that Jim was not saying that the competition in Div 1 or 3 (or ANY division) was easier, rather he was talking about proximity of NHRA National events. As Jim mentioned, here in Div. 6 we have a grand total of ONE national event, in a geographically large area. Every other division has a least 2 or more. For myself, Seattle is only about a bit over 150 miles, but the next "closest" National event is Sonoma, about 1200 miles one way. Jim is a bit further away, the racers in Alberta and Saskatchewan are at least 15-20 hours further away. Considering how far apart Boise, Mission, and Medford are also means attending the divisionals here will also rack up the miles. I realize that each division has some distance between races, but getting 2 or more nationals up here requires some long hours on the road. I`m just glad I`m not paying Jody Lang or Mark Fauls fuel bills!!

Actually, paying points and a little money for qualifying, records, and class would solve a lot of the problems with soft factors. I'd like to see class run at every event and have it pay points as well as some money, too. It would help make the AHFS work.

I know exactly what he was talking about and I'll be the first one to say that I'm glad I don't have to travel those distances BUT every Div. race I go to will be a 7 round race with a bunch of "Hitters" at every one. I've been out west. I'd love to live out west. Just not right now. I like my short tows to any one of a half-a-dozen tracks BUT you don't see west coast Racers coming east to win championships!

The exception, not the rule. Let's just leave this that each Division has its advantages and disadvantages so if someone is serious about winning a National title choose your home Division wisely!
