How would you know if the car count was going to be too low ahead of time? I could see more folks being confused and upset if an eliminations schedule couldn't be posted until after every car in all seven classes were teched in.

Bob,
Lets pick a number say 64 cars. Let everyone know if over 64 cars are on the qualifying sheet then No Re-Entry. They post the sheet every round so everyone would know. Chip |

Save your energy for counting all the money you won winning your championship without having to travel all over the country Chip, some people you will never be able to convince.

They could make it $3,000/win with no buybacks, maybe then everyone would be happy.
![]() I like to RACE. I'll be there, regardless of the format.

Harry,
Come on. Only about 1% of the sportsman racers make a living doing this maybe less. That being said it does cost to go and we need the chance to win to offset what it cost. "Back in the day" gas was 10 cent a gallon too. |

Although these were sanctioned races there were no points earned at these events. I am no big fan of buybacks but can appreciate the fact that IHRA was trying to do something in the interest of sportsman racing therefor instead of moaning and groaning about I supported them and glad I did. Its not a divisional or national points race so what's the big deal. Same people complaining up here all the time probably would bitch about having to pay the taxes if they won the lottery!

I am as loyal now as I have ever been...and am committing to at least a full division 9 schedule in 12. I understand that monetary issues drive decisions in the main office, but when that bleeds down to the grandstands, it takes it to a different light. I am not upset with the amount of competition ((especially in Chip's department...ur still one of the greats!!!) I don't know...it just feels like it cheapens the feeling of grabbing that hardware in the winner's circle. I did come from an era of Trophies and big overblown glossy pictures on the wall...the purses and contingency offset the cost to go racing; and that's all that mattered. I was doing what I love to do with the people that I love doing it with. I probably am making mountains out of molehills, I know. It's just one of those issues that rubbed me the wrong way. I love my IHRA president, and my sanctioning body. And I know at crunchtime, tough calls have to be made. I just hope we don't forget where we started.

Is there anyone that specifically did NOT attend the IHRA race BECAUSE they had buybacks, and that was the PRIMARY reason for not attending??
Just curious. Last edited by 442OLDS; 10-26-2011 at 07:48 PM. |

I had the privilege of being at both Sportsman Spectacular events, and I thought it was very cool that racers in all seven sportsman classes had a chance to take home a $5k check and contingencies. Everyone that re-entered still had to win a round before advancing to round 2. ...and if I remember right, while a re-entered racer could win the big money in their class (or much better than average payday for R/U, semi's or quarter's), a re-entered winner would not earn a spot in the TOC.
