I too carry a deck of cards in the race car just for this occasion.
The ladder system (sportsman or pro) only benefits the fastest cars in qualifying prior to class elims. If you are not the fastest, there is a chance of the fastest two cars running rd 1, thus eliminating the fact that a slower car would have to upset two cars instead of 1. The upsets at Indy (holeshots, etc.) make Class elims at Indy a "Don't Miss" day. Don't mess with a good thing!.... it ain't broke! (don't fix it!)
