There were factory-built L72 Chevelles and Camaros back in the late 60s. They were the COPO (Central Office Production Order) cars, and they're worth a ton. GM executives and certain performance-focused GM Dealers were allowed to place these special orders. That's where the ZL-1 1969 Camaros came from; they were all COPOs.
