http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...px?ENGINE=2040 A local guy built a mid '60's Chevelle, with a six, back in '75. It was real quick, for a while, then either the nat record was bombed or he got a lot of hp. Anyhow, he never ran it after that, IIRC. I assume that the only reason he built the car, in the 1st place, was because it had a real soft index, or nat record. Can't remember now if we were running off records or index. I remember seeing a screamin six run, in div 4. The guys name was Glen Self. The car's name was Stormin Six. It was a nat record holder. Never heard another six that sounded like that one. The combos that I would like them to focus on are the combos that just got arbitrarily handed a bad factor 20-30-40 years ago and got forgotten about. There has to be some kind of a happy medium that NHRA can come up with to get some "affordable" combos the help that they need without the full-blown "welfare" give mes. As it stands, there's no rationale for a Racer to build a decent, affordable but not very competitive car and have to race it for 10 years getting 2-3 HP back a year.

Pure Stockers and Crate Motor cars are being discriminated against by the IHRA. They've never been acknowledged by the NHRA (other than a couple of benevolent DDs who let them run at their 1/8th mile Opens).

Billy, ,,I'm really interested in this 69 Camaro 6 cylinder combo,,do you think this would be cost effective and index wise a better combination than the 255hp 350??

I looked at a '69 Camaro back in the eighties that was all original with a 250 six. Also Stock racer Mike Warren used to race a white '69 convertible with a six cylinder.

I saw a first gen Camaro with the 6 combo run within the last few years somewhere on the east coast. It may have been at an IHRA race.

IHRA Pure Stock was regular Stock before the Modified Stock Rules. Crate Motors are also a great way to get more people in too. Especially Bracket Racers. You make a good comment about attracting new people. Here are two cost effective solutions.. D |
