Hey Toby
This question has nothing to do with these guys but how the start system works. I have meet both. Anybody correct me if i do not have this right, this is how I thought it worked. Once a car pre stages the other car has 45 seconds to pre stage. Once a car stages the other car has 7 seconds to stage. Or does the starter have total control over the pre stage time? Want to know how it works for future incidents if this happens to me.

I think it's 15 to pre stage (starter can over ride this)and 7 to stage

As far as open loop VS closed loop, one relies on a base fuel map vs the engine rpm or throttle position. The other ties into the on board Global Positioning System and wheel speed counters and makes it extremely consistent.

I just assumed you noticed that your temp was low after the burnout and that's why you took so long. If you noticed the temp was low when they pulled you to the ready line, why didn't you start getting on the convertor then instead of waiting until after the burnout? I wouldn't think it would take that long to get it from 85 to 115 degrees. Also, you could have stopped behind the burnout box and got on the convertor like some people do to test their transbrake. I would have been stalling it from the second I saw the temp was low. I don't know about your car, but on mine the temp gauge doesn't really move unless you toggle the water pump.

According to your interpretation of the rules, when the starter waves you in all you need to do is make forward motion? If that's the case, I should be able to take 15 minutes to stage as long as I make forward motion, right? I've always heard when the starter waves you to stage you are supposed to stage like ... NOW! Not just make inch bumps towards the line or stage whenever you feel like it.

You say you felt awful about it after the race, but when you were doing it you had to know that you were hanging Jim out to dry and his car was heating up. But, you got your car up to the proper temp and that's all that matters.

Never heard of a pre-stage timer, but I believe you get 10 seconds to stage in most of the sportsman classes and 7 seconds for the pros.

The Compulink timing system does not have any set time for Pre-Stage set in it. The starter would have the control of making someone pre-stage if they feel they are taking too long to do so. The stage timeout limit is set at 7 for the Pro/Alcohol classes and 10 for the Lucas Oil Sportsman classes.

This is what is in the rule book nothing about a set time to prestage or stage. Tommy you crack me up.

A reasonable amount of time will be permitted for drivers to stage.
The time limit will be determined at the sole and absolute discretion
of the official starter. Failure to stage upon the starter’s instructions
is possible grounds for disqualification. After proper staging and
receiving the starter’s signal to go, restaging for a second time is
prohibited. Any driver leaving the starting line before the start
system is activated, including a driver on a single run, will have his
or her time disqualified for the run.

Toby what the *****! It's over! I can not take it back. I have made three attempts to apologize to Jim. I have explained myself and the situation in a public forum and people will all have their own opinions. I don't know what you want to do from here, we could do it old school and I could come see you at the Seattle National and we could fist fight? Or we could do it NASCAR style and Jim could wreck me next time we race, or even better NASCAR pit crew style and we could have a brawl with jack handles! Just let me know what you are thinking and I'll make sure my car is warmed up! Seriously aren't you both over 50? I thought maturity came with age, maybe I'm wrong again.
