I'm in central Ohio, but I just sent one of Mikes over to ATI to be freshened. It was originally one of ATI's convertors, and several years back I had Mike make it " his way". All ATI did was change the bearings and such, and left the stator, turbine, ect. alone. I haven't tried it,so I can't give you any feedback on it. But I'm like you, and I had to find somewhere to send it . On the recite, it was noted that it was " heavily modified" from their design.

we found ourselves in a similar predicament last year after Jim Paquet sold his JPT business the new owner Brian is converter clueless and very unreliable to boot we lucked out and discovered Lenny at ULTIMATE best converter man on the planet in my book, now all we need is a new reliable C-4 trans guy that isn't half way across the country

Joe, No doubt ,a good company
Jeff, I wouldn't mind seeing inside that one..There really isn't a lot of room for heavy modifications inside of an 8 " conv. ,aside from making room for a mechanical diode or thick sprag...Lenny will tell you, you only have a small window within which to work in most S/SS applications. Alex, You are very wise to be dealing with Lenny. I can say that after knowing him for almost 40 years...Except that he may have left a bit of a void in New England. LOL If I were so inclined to move back to....Nah, never mind Thanks for the replies so far..

I have used Munsinger convertors in every car I've raced since '77. Mike has never been fast at making them but they are by far the most reliable, combination specific convertors IMHO.He was one of the pioneers of stator modifications for flash but yet had little high rpm slippage. I still use the (original Rossi 8") first one he "tuned up " for me in '77 when he was working for Bobby Thomson at Thomson Transmissions. The spare ( that took six months to get back) runs the same as the original exactly as I requested it be made.
No doubt there are others that do excellent work too, no argument there. |

I wish Mike all the best.... He's done alot of convertor work for me in the past, although right now i have two ATI's.. His were faster at first, but the last ATI one i got was faster... As far as turn around, Mike was slow but when i was really in a bind one time and broke a convertor (no fault of his it just had around 1500 passes on it) I over nighted it to him, he fixed it same day and overnighted it back. He was upset that he had to send out so quick he couldnt repaint it....Got it back switched them at the track and his again was faster by almost .15 .... Just my thoughts
