I would think I-80 all the way to I-25 south. Looks like more miles but would avoid the tow over the mountains from Grand Junction to Denver.
Also either way, especially if you go to I-25 try to avoid rush hour. Traffic is brutal am and late afternoon from Fort Collins to Denver.

I-80 not nearly as many hills to climb and last fall the road was in great shape with very little construction. I-80 is just a better road than I-70 however, it is a few more miles but probably quicker in the long run. A little rough around Cheyenne WY and construction on I-25 when you get close to Denver.
Just My Opinion for what it is worth.

I made the pull to Vegas last October for the divisional. I didn't want to tackle the mountains and went up through Wyoming, 950 miles each way.

If your rig can handle the mountains its a much shorter trip. Wyoming it adds 200 miles going up but down through New Mexico it adds 350.

Hi John,

I've towed east on I-70 up and over through the Eisenhower Tunnel at 11,000 feet plus.

I don't think that I would do that again..

John,
All good advice. I've done I-70 both ways in a Class A towing a truck. It was
OK just a long tow.

I've done I-80 to and from Utah from my house 20 miles south of Denver towing
a 34 foot 5th wheel trailer with my Ram 3500 diesel. Much easier drive.

Hope to see you and Jon on Saturday.

Its not the pull up to the tunnel or Vail pass that is hard on the rig. Its the bad roads.. Vail pass bridge's will tear up a trailer.. But that is the way we go from Grand Junction to Denver when we race.. Just slow down is the key...
