Advice on Fallon to Denver Racetrack?
Directions from Fallon to Denver race.
WE are towing 48' and 40' two car trailers. 50 to 70 OR 80 across ? |
Re: Advice on Fallon to Denver Racetrack?
I would think I-80 all the way to I-25 south. Looks like more miles but would avoid the tow over the mountains from Grand Junction to Denver.
Also either way, especially if you go to I-25 try to avoid rush hour. Traffic is brutal am and late afternoon from Fort Collins to Denver. |
Re: Advice on Fallon to Denver Racetrack?
I-80 not nearly as many hills to climb and last fall the road was in great shape with very little construction. I-80 is just a better road than I-70 however, it is a few more miles but probably quicker in the long run. A little rough around Cheyenne WY and construction on I-25 when you get close to Denver.

Re: Advice on Fallon to Denver Racetrack?
I made the pull to Vegas last October for the divisional. I didn't want to tackle the mountains and went up through Wyoming, 950 miles each way.
If your rig can handle the mountains its a much shorter trip. Wyoming it adds 200 miles going up but down through New Mexico it adds 350. |

Hi John,
I've towed east on I-70 up and over through the Eisenhower Tunnel at 11,000 feet plus. I don't think that I would do that again.. Bob |
Re: Advice on Fallon to Denver Racetrack?
John,
All good advice. I've done I-70 both ways in a Class A towing a truck. It was OK just a long tow. I've done I-80 to and from Utah from my house 20 miles south of Denver towing a 34 foot 5th wheel trailer with my Ram 3500 diesel. Much easier drive. Hope to see you and Jon on Saturday. |

The Fast Lane Truck has a YouTube channel that has a lot of videos of loaded trucks pulling the gauntlet up to the Eisenhower tunnel, plenty doable but your rig needs to be in good shape. Recommend the channel, they have some interesting road tests.

I totally agree on taking 80! 70 is rough and the grades and curves at speed are brutal!

Re: Advice on Fallon to Denver Racetrack?
We took 80.....
Quit a bit of Road Construction but easy trip! In Fallon we were only 25 - 30 miles from 80 = probably only 50 miles longer than 50 to 70. We will see everyone tomorrow afternoon. |
