I have a 67 camaro bracket car, I have a auto zone deep cycle battery,,, it keeps dying on me. I was told by Optima to go with a yellow top, I was told by jegs to go with the red top. When walking through the pits I see more red tops than yellow tops. I do not run an alternator.... Any advice ???

I run two yellow top battery's in my car. This year will be seven years, I keep waiting for them to quit but they must have a lot of energizer rabbit in them. I do charge them after each round TT or Elim..........

If you do not run an alternator, then you need to use a marine battery. The optima marine battery is the blue top.

I suggest you take a look at "Odyssey Batteries" I run (1) PC-1200 dry cell w/o an alternator and it's hands down the best battery I have ever used, not to mention very light-weight also. It's six years old....!!!!!!

Rick, Glad to hear that. Base on all the information I could find about batteries I just purchased an Odyssey PC-1200 for my Roadster (no alternator) looks like the right decision. I also purchased their 25amp charger.
How much charging are you doing at the track, after every round, every other round, or once per day?? Thanks JT |

An alternator is the way to go. I had one put on my new dragster, and unless I forget to turn the fans or something off, I never have to charge it. I check it constantly with a meter and it is always ready to go. It was a good investment, I will never have another drag car without one.

Then i checked my charger and found that it was not putting out 100% all the time. replaced the charger and the problem went away. The charger would build up to a certain point then start showing full charge when it really was'nt. |
