Would anyone be more interested if NHRA allowed more cars to enter but lowered qualified field from 128 to 64? More cars could enter, a set number of cars would race into the weekend.
I haven't been doing this very long and I'm sure there are lots of holes in my idea ... |

The reason the number of cars allowed to enter is limited per event is because of pit space. There was a time when over a thousand cars entered The Nationals at Indianapolis. Back then racers either drove their race cars to the track, tow barred their race cars or pulled them on an open trailer. Today the pits are full because of gigantic motor homes pulling tri-axle trailers and thats just for the Sportsman racers. The Pro pits with their multiple tractor trailer rigs per team take up what used to be shared with Sportsman racers. Limiting the number of race cars per event was the only answer to lack of pit space caused by huge rigs.

That would pretty much eliminate me from competing in stock as I don't have the budget to qualify well; but please don't take that as a complaint. I enjoy being able to compete in the handicap format but I guess it really comes down to what is best for the class and the majority of the racers. At that point why not just run it like comp eliminator and be done with it? We work hard to get the car to run under the index enough to compete but would end up going to events to make qualifying runs and leave. I think car counts would drop like a hot rock. It's no ones fault but my own that I don't have the resources to qualify better, so off I go to the bracket races for a couple seasons until I can make my stock combination competitive.

Pit space was not an issue at the Fall Vegas event .The place was like a ghost town, under the new mean , lean NHRA.

Why not take in part of the spectator parking area to put racers in. They make more money from a racer than an average spectator.

I think they should alternate one class year to year and upping the quota in other.every four years you miss a race.no big deal.
