Default help with slicks

I have a question about slicks and wheel width. I have a bracket car than I run hoosier 29x10 bias slicks on. Car runs 6.40's in the 1/8th. It kills the sidewalls LONG before the tread wears out. The make a stiff sidewall 29x10.5 but that tire is bigger and wont fit on my car.
Someone told me since I run a 10" wide wheel on the back to run the hoosier 29x9 that putting that tire on with the 10" wheel would stiffen the sidewall and that i could probably get 20-30 more passes out of them than i'm getting out of the 29x10 that i run now.
Is there any truth to this.
