help with slicks
I have a question about slicks and wheel width. I have a bracket car than I run hoosier 29x10 bias slicks on. Car runs 6.40's in the 1/8th. It kills the sidewalls LONG before the tread wears out. The make a stiff sidewall 29x10.5 but that tire is bigger and wont fit on my car.
Someone told me since I run a 10" wide wheel on the back to run the hoosier 29x9 that putting that tire on with the 10" wheel would stiffen the sidewall and that i could probably get 20-30 more passes out of them than i'm getting out of the 29x10 that i run now. Is there any truth to this. |
Re: help with slicks
How much air are you running in your slicks? How hard are you hitting the tire? 60' times?

Re: help with slicks
G'day,
Have been running the same 29 x10 Hoosier bias slick on my falcon. 8.5 rim, 3160 lbs, 1.34 in the 60 ft,, 6.20 something in the 1/8 I generally run around 15 psi, but still kill the sidewalls in around 40 passes, by pictures still need more air or a stiff tyre, have just put 10 inch rims on it, and will run 16 psi and work with the shocks, I can't go taller as it kills it, that sizing is pretty right, I would keep going up in air pressure for you and tune the hit with the shocks, Keen to see how you go! Re: help with slicks
Wider rims seems like it could help and more PSI. We run a 30x9 D05 Hoosier, on a 10" rim. Our slower (1.4X & 6.9X's best) Chevelle, that leaves off a TB at 3600 w/ a 1.76 glide, used to wrap the tires a lot before we started working on the shocks in the rear and up front. Also added a weld-in anti roll bar. Every combo and car is different. We got ~250 runs out of our last set of tires. I set up a go-pro on the ground and near the rear tires during prepped TnT session and watched each launch in slo mo. To adjust shocks and tires. We kept bumping the tire pressure 1/2 psi at a time until we found our limit around 22 psi. We run 18-21 in the midst of Michigan summer and hot lapping it. If any of that helps...

Re: help with slicks
Good info! I think most of us don't run enough tyre pressure,
I know a few guys over your way that use these same tyres, similar weight cars and won't run anything under 16 psi, usually more, Fits with your experience Cheers |
Re: help with slicks
Have you ever considered radials? You aren't going to beat the sidewall out of those.

Re: help with slicks
I run at several tracks that are not radial friendly, so that's not a option.

I 60' in the 1.4's mid to high 6's 3k pounds on TB with 29x10.5W on 10" wheel and tires last a long time. The 10.5W's are stiffer sidewall. Have you tried tubes, I always run tubeless but they say they will stiffen the sidewall. I hear you on the non radial friendly tracks, I ran MT PBR's for a season and they were great until they weren't. |
