Just wanted to introduce myself and ask for a little advice. My name is Devin Froud and I race a 1967 Mustang in Div. 6 Sportsman. With 4 years under my belt, and some success running in Summit bracket series, I have decided to convert my car to a Stock Eliminator setup and join the Lucas ranks. It looks like my (future) program will land me in N or M Stock automatic with a little 225hp rated 289. I have talked with some of my local stocker racers about the class, but I have a lot to learn, so I thought I would throw myself at your mercy. Give me the advise you would give any window licking newbie at your local track. Just be forewarned, "close your wallet and run," or "trade for a Dart, Nova, more modern ride" ain't going to sink in. I've made dumb decisions for fun too long to give up now.
Thanks in advance for the input..... and be easy, I may see you in the lanes, and I race better with hurt feelings. Devin

First look at what class does it run. Not being a Ford racer, but you might want to look at the flexibility of changing the car to a 68 to give you more engine options. A lot of racers use the 390 engine.
Welcome and good luck. |

One of the reason I have stayed in sportsman. The car was my high school daily driver, and I'm not interested in filling it full of tubes.

WELCOME …..Best advice, attend a few LODRS races as a spectator. Approach some of the FORD racers and ask them questions. Too many newbies make the mistake of building a car because they already have it …even if it is a VERY unfavorable combo ….

First thing...Go here } http://www.classracerinfo.com/
It's de-factored to 199 hp, and while not a killer combo, it should run a half second under in N, without too much expense...Of course "too much expense " is a relative term.

I understand your reasoning, BUT ….when you race a COPO / MUSTANG that hits the brakes too hard at the stripe and gets out of control …..you and your FAMILY will WISH you had a roll bar and all the safety items …..

NHRA STOCK and SuperStock looks like a lot of fun but, it's much more work than Sportman racing, much more expensive, much more traveling expensive, and entry fees are 3 times as expensive with basically the same payout with exception to contingency which is hard to get paid once you do win or runner up in NHRA.
That being said I wish you well but...... for $50,000 you can own a Lebanon Dealer installed Whipple Ford Mustang that will run all three brackets and does not need any safety devices as long as you keep it under 135mph in 1/4 mile. I inquired with Mike Rice of this vehicle and as of last season you can run 10.00 at 135 mph with minimal safety equipment " no roll bar or cage, etc. It is dealer installed supercharger and on pump gas and comes with 36,000 mile warranty. Good luck F776 Sportman/Pro Last edited by MoJo Risen; 07-24-2021 at 02:15 PM. |

Chad Voges I think runs a 289 225 set up like yours. Maybe he can help?
