Looking to buy a truck to tow my 24ft. race car enclosed trailer. Does anyone know how the Dodge Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi's tow? Do they have enough power? If I were to guess, I would say my trailer weighs around 7,000 lbs. with my car in it.
Thanks, Kevin Clark |

John Dinkle has been using this combo for years, and he has a small slide in Camper on it.

I switched from a 2011 Dodge 1500 Longhorn 5.7 Hemi to a 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 with also the 5.7 Hemi engine. Although I have not towed with the new truck, based on my towing experience with the 1500, I don't see a problem towing 7K lbs.

Decent tow rig, have pulled with the hemi and Cummings, just don't expect to sail up major hills with the hemi. FYI that a decent sized enclosed steel trailer is typically going to weigh close to 5000 pounds...what are you pulling exactly?

Don't know about the Hemi, but I pulled at 10K trailer with a 2500 two wheel drive, cummins, automatic and 4.10 gears no problem.
Gears and two vs. four wheel drive would make a big difference. |

So you actually towed with the 1500 5.7? How much would you say you were towing? |

I tow my Hemi NSS Dodge all over the place with an 05 Durango 5.7 Hemi, and it's great. Although I use an open trailer and the total car and trailer is somewhere around 5500 lbs.
But, it has power to just sail up these mountains in Western Pa., I can top them at 75 mph, easy. It also gets terrific gas mileage with the MDS, over 18mpg pulling the trailer. A friend of mine pulls an NSS 62 Plymouth in an enclosed with a similar setup, and has close to the same results. Can't beat it. |

I had an 03 Ram 2500 Hemi that towed a 26' enclosed trailer with a 3000lb car with no problem. Only thing i didn't like is the transmission hunting gears. Got a Cummins after that would never go back to a gas engine towing again.
