Default Rear gear selection for Chevy ll 327 stocker build......

OK lets hear what you got. I have all the numbers for a stick car which is my intent BUT if I have to go automatic weapon 3 speed-----anyone care to suggest a gear ratio for a 327/274 Chevy ll stocker---3005 lbs---30" tire----three speed metric auto ???? I would love to get it right the first time. THANKS for any intelligent replys.

MPH X Gear ratio X 336 divided by tire height = RPM.
You'll have to allow for converter slippage someone else could tell you more on that # but probaly 5-8% would be good guess as example figures crossing @ 7100 add 8% would be 7668
Stick car will match formula almost exactly.
Can also figure converter % slippage@ top end w/this formula as close as can for guys without data recorder

I run 5:13 in my wagon (350/2bbl/Glide) in P/SA @ 3850 lbs or so
Its got a 28.5 Goodyear ( I forget the roll out)
One friend runs (350/4bbl/Metric200) 69 Camaro in G/SA uses 5:13 with 30.0 ( Hoosier, I think)
Another friend 350/2bbl 69 Camaro M/Stick uses 5:13 with 30.0 M/T
Don`t have roll out #`s for those
Most people I talk to that run SBC Stockers run 5:13`s
Just my two cents
Good luck

I am inclined to agree with Mr. Lewis. Car is really light and in testing not much difference but consistency.

My car... 122.3x4.11x336 devided by 30''= 5629... i trap at 5800...Id say my converter is locked up pretty good... 3% roughly... This is not my stocker combo... Not sure what to expect from that...
