Even if GUMP ran the OEM GM transmission, there are already parts such as high performance valve bodies and torque converters in the market. Joe, and when when NHRA decided to allow 3 speed automatics to replace the 2 speed Powerglide, the 3 speeds allowed were required to be of the same manufacturer, and directly bolt to the engine. Last I checked, (and I was a Toyota dealership tech for 24 years before I retired), and although we did have a Subaru powered model, none of cars or trucks came with GM built transmissions. I wonder how much $$$ Toyota had to slide across the table at the NHRA office, to get this car, which is looking more like a Factory GT/"Paper Tiger" car, into the NHRA Classification Guide?
